Occupy Movement Dumps Clenched Fist for New Logo to Represent the 99 Percent

Categories: Occupy
Earlier this month, we told readers about Occupy's imminent makeover; it's moving away from the ubiquitous clenched-fist emblem, and participants are coming up with a more sophisticated(?) logo to reflect the 99 percent.

After the newly formed Occupy.com -- a group working to support the Occupy Movement through media -- opened it up to designers across the nation, the anti-big bank movement has finally selected the winning design.  Here it is:

What do you think? Does this accurately represent you as an angry, bitter, foreclosed-upon person?

Occupy.com sifted through more than 1,500 entries, which were submitted through 99designs.com, before selecting the winner. "The creative energy of the contest naturally went towards the circle -- It's iconic, it's endlessly reproducible, it's infinitely inviting and inclusive and it symbolizes the connectedness of all of us," occupier David Sauvage wrote in an e-mail to SF Weekly.

Naturally, the lucky designer is getting criticism from some sore losers; at least one left a comment online, calling the chosen design a "very expensive CIRCLE."

Maybe. But that circle won the designer a $1,000 award, and that's a nice chunk of change for a 99 percenter!
