You can always count on San Francisco for intense drama.

A San Francisco man put up a serious fight against police yesterday evening, hoping the cops would kill him in his elaborate plan to commit suicide. According to police, it all started when the suspect banged on his neighbor's door, then punched her in the face when she opened it.

The building manager tried to intervene, but the suspect assaulted him, too. The drama spilled out onto the building's third floor, where the suspect kicked the manager several times. When another person intervened on this attack, the building manager ran off, but the suspect followed him into the street, where he hit him several times with a belt, police said.

The suspect then came back to the apartment only to stir up more trouble.

When he made it back to the third floor, the suspect was confronted by a police officer. The suspect put his hand behind his back, and yelled out "I have a gun, and I am going to use it."

The officer drew his own gun, pointed it at the suspect, and told him to back up. The suspect continued moving his right hand back and forth as well as inside his jacket, making it seem like he had a gun. The cop called for backup as he noticed the suspect had a metallic object in his hand.

A second officer arrived and grabbed the suspect from behind, wrestling him to the ground. A "violent" struggle ensued as the cops tried to subdue him; the suspect tried to bite one officer then spit in his face, and then informed him he had a communicable disease, police said.

Two more officers arrived and doused the suspect with pepper spray, which had no effect on the fighting man. So they did the next best, and non-deadly thing: They punched him in the face.

That certainly worked, at least enough that they were able to take the suspect into custody. Meanwhile, one officer suffered a contusion and another officer had numerous abrasions and scratches, according to police.

Upon further investigation, police learned they had been duped. The suspect had reportedly left a farewell message on a social networking site announcing his intention to force cops to shoot him dead.

According to police, here's what his last post read:

"I'm gonna check out. Tonight is the night" and "OK, the cops are coming here, I'm gonna pretend to have a gun and they will shoot me, remember the movie Butch Cassidy."
The suspect was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. After he is treated and released, he will be charged with threats, battery, and resisting arrest.
