Thanks for not driving after drinking your body weight in alcohol

​What better way to kick off the New Year than to just be alive? Police are thrilled to report that not one single person was killed in DUI-related accidents over the holidays, and that includes Christmas and New Years -- when people are expected to booze carelessly.

Perhaps part of the reason nobody was killed is that officers nabbed plenty of drunks on San Francisco streets. According to Captain Al Casciato, police arrested 129 people on suspicion of driving while intoxicated between Dec. 16, 2011 and Jan 1, 2012. That's a 29 percent increase from last year's 100 DUI arrests.

Aside from thanking the various agencies that helped get drunk drivers off the road, Casciato also congratulated all of you who thought twice before getting behind the wheel after a night of slamming shots.

"Thanks to ... all the intelligent, responsible people who would never even consider driving drunk," he said.
