Ross Mirkarimi, Sheriff-Elect, Investigated for Alleged Domestic Violence

​Today's news will make for an awkward swearing in for Sheriff-elect Ross Mirkarimi, who is reportedly at the center of a domestic violence police investigation.

According to media reports, a neighbor called police over New Year's to report a domestic violence incident between Mirkarimi and his wife, Eliana Lopez. The Chron's Matier & Ross reports that Lopez confided in this neighbor after having a heated argument with her husband over the holiday. The neighbor then called police, explaining that the alleged incident could be part of a "larger pattern of abuse," the Chron reports.

But Lopez, speaking only through Mirkarimi's campaign adviser, Jim Stearns, told media outlets that everything is just fine between her and her husband:

"What is happening here is wrong. I have absolutely no complaint against my husband. My husband has never been abusive to me. Ross and I are committed to our marriage, our son and our family."

Still, police, who have already started interviewing neighbors, are telling Matier & Ross that right now, all they have is a "maybe" this happened.

Of course, Mirkarimi, who is preparing to transition into his new job on Sunday, isn't talking to reporters.
