Frederick Dozier, Rape Suspect, Appears in Court, Community Raises Money for Victims

​Frederick A. Dozier, the former school district employee and suspected rapist, appeared in court today where he was charged with 26 felony counts, including rape, robbery, and attempted murder.

Police say Dozier, 32, confessed to the rapes, and DNA evidence has linked him to all three sexual assaults which occurred in the 24th Street corridor over the last six months. He appeared in court this afternoon to answer to these charged, but his arraignment was continued until Friday morning, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Dozier was arrested last week after a tip led police to the Bernal Dwellings Housing Projects, where they found Dozier. He was apparently working at Green Streets, a company that manages recycling and composting and teaches residents how to reduce waste in housing projects, including Bernal Dwellings.

Dozier is accused of attacking three women as they walked along 24th Street during the early-morning hours. In each instance, he allegedly attacked them from behind, pushed them down, raped, and robbed them.

The most vicious incident happened on Dec. 8, when Dozier allegedly raped a women and beat her so badly that the Fire Department was called in to clean blood from the sidewalk at Fair Oaks and 24th streets. Andy Segal, president of Fair Oaks Community Coalition, said that neighbors are relieved to have a suspect in custody -- now they can continue focusing on helping the victims recover.

The Coalition has established a fund to provide financial assistance to the survivors, he said. "The 24th Street Survivors Fund has already received $12,000 in donations, which will soon be disbursed by the District Attorney's Victim Services Division."

"Today, we are ending this Defendant's reign of terror, " said District Attorney George Gascón. "Residents of San Francisco are safer with this violent predator off our streets."
