San Francisco Falls in Rankings to Nation's 22nd Drunkest City

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story erroneously presented 2010's Daily Beast rankings, in which San Francisco was America's 3rd drunkest city, as the 2011 rankings. As is apparent in the comments section of this blog post, the links on the Daily Beast site are a little confusing, and our misinterpretation of them resulted in this mix-up. We regret the error.

San Francisco reliably comes out on top in national polls of which metropolitan area ranks highest in ribald practices. In June, we brought you the important news that our city had been deemed the country's sluttiest.

Our drinking, it seems, is not quite up to that level. According to a survey of health statistics by The Daily Beast, San Francisco has dropped from the the country's third-drunkest city in 2010 to 22nd drunkest in 2011.

To the numbers: San Francisco's percentage of adult "heavy drinkers" went from 8.2 in 2010 to 6.1 in 2011. The percentage of binge drinkers went from 19.6 down to 14 percent.

Not at all respectable, San Francisco -- we were beat out this year by the likes of Denver, Tuscon, and Lincoln, Neb. It might take some effort to claw our way to the top in next year's rankings. If you plan to take up the cause on New Year's Eve, remember not to drink and drive -- or walk.

the whole thing is a mess... first this blog post citing SF as 3rd on the 2011 list. next problem, the fact that the "study" lists SF as "Population over age 21: 5,090,928" which is off by a factor of oh i dunno... 10? I assume in this case SF means the Bay Area ???

I retract my previous comment. There are 2 different links. The one that shows SF as #3 was from 2010. The city has fallen to #22 for 2011. I wouldn't go so far as to say this is "irresponsible," given the topic, but not impressive.

If you'd bother to come off your internet high horse... you'd notice two links to two separate galleries, one putting the number 22 next to SF, one putting the number 3. So what's it supposed to be? Eater read it as being 22 though, for what it's worth http://eater.com/archives/2011...

Look, it's all just click bait, and we all know SF is the best drinking town in all the land, but your lesson in commenting ethics was a bit misplaced. Thanks for your concern though.
