Another sexual assault reported, but this one was in Oakland
San Francisco's Mission District has been on edge over two recent brutal rapes, which police believe involve the same suspect. With no real leads, police told SF Weekly they are now "looking into" possible similarities with an early morning sexual assault that happened in Oakland earlier this week.

According to news reports, police say a woman was walking along the 9000 Holly Street in East Oakland at about 6:50 a.m on Monday when a man came up from behind her, grabbed her and held her against a gate at knifepoint. The man demanded money from her and she handed him her cash.

He then sexually assaulted her before running off, according to police.

The suspect was described as a black man, about 5-feet-6, with a slim build. He weighed between 140 and 150 pounds and had brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black beanie ski mask, a black hooded sweater, and faded black jeans with white shoes, police told reporters.

While police have not said there is a connection to the San Francisco sexual assaults, they are paying attention to see if there are any similarities. In both San Francisco cases, the women were walking in the early morning when they were attacked from behind, robbed, and sexually assaulted.

The suspect in both instances was described as a black man in his mid-30s, between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.

"The Special Victims Unit is aware of the incident and is looking into it," SFPD Sgt. Daryl Fong told us.

Oakland police are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. Anyone with information was asked to call the Oakland Police Department's Youth and Family Service Division at (510) 238-3641 or the tip line at (510) 637-0298.
