What kind of monster would shoot a dog?
A quiet stroll through Bernal Heights early this morning turned into abrupt gunfire for a local man and his dog when someone tired to shoot the barking pup.

According to police, the man was taking his dog on a short walk at about 1 a.m. today when his pit bull started barking at someone standing at the top of the stairs that connect Putnam and Nevada streets.

Smart dog.

The suspect didn't say a word; rather, he took out a gun and fired a few rounds at the dog before running off, according to police.

Fortunately, neither dog nor man was hit. The victim ran back to his home and called police, who later found bullet casings in the area. Police canvassed the neighborhood but were unable to find the shooter, said Officer Albie Esparaza.

The victim didn't get a good look at the suspect, so all we know at this juncture is that he's not good with animals.
