A 50-year-old man was riding a Muni bus through the Tenderloin on Monday night when the passenger next to him asked to borrow his cellphone. The kind man agreed to let the stranger use his phone, but the communication turned sour when he realized he wasn't giving it back.
According to police, the victim asked for his phone back, and when the suspect refused, the victim snatched his cell out of the thief's hands.
The suspect got upset and stabbed the man in the chest before running off of the bus, said Officer Albie Esparza.
The victim was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
