Call a Cab, DUI Checkpoint Planned for Tomorrow
| If you can't read this sign after a night of drinking, then don't drive! |
Cops will begin stopping drivers at 8:30 p.m. and continue sniffing out drunks behind the wheel until 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
"All police officers in this city are deadly serious about the crime of drinking and driving and the death, injury, heartbreak and economic burdens it brings," said said Capt. Al Casciato. "Checkpoints are primarily for public education -- we make most of our DUI arrests while on patrol."
And they have the numbers to back that up. Police say the number of DUI arrests in the first five days of this holiday crackdown increased by 59 percent compared to the same time last year.
"We're glad we took dangerous DUI suspects off the road," Casciato said in a statement. "This means there are more out there."
Just don't let it be you!
