Hey, Drunks: DUI Checkpoint Planned for New Year's Eve
| You're screwed! |
The DUI checkpoint, located at 8th and Folsom streets, will start at 8:30 p.m. and continue well into 2012, ending at 3 a.m.
"We could not be more serious about getting these dangerous people off the road and making San Francisco safer," Capt. Al Casciato said in an e-mailed release.
He reminded us that there's no good reason for anyone to get behind the wheel after a night of boozing and snorting blow. There are plenty of transportation options, Casciato said.
Amazingly enough, walking while wasted isn't any safer.
"We're transit-friendly," he said. "Our cabs, limousines, buses, cable cars, and trolleys will help people who've had too much to drink get home safely. The expense is tiny compared with a DUI arrest and conviction."
Aside from costing thousands of dollars, a DUI will mar your driving record for 10 years, available for all your employers to see.
There are only four days left of this 17-day winter crackdown, where every available cop is out on the road looking for drunk drivers. So try not to be stupid, people.
