A 19-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury after she was struck by a Muni bus yesterday evening.

Police say the woman was walking at about 5:30 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Junipero Serra Boulevard when she was hit by a M-line bus. She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to San Francisco police.

Paul Rose, spokesman with Muni, said the driver is on nondriving status, and a drug and alcohol test will be conducted per standard department procedure.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Police had no further details.
