Man hit by bus
Medical authorities identified the man who was hit by a Muni bus yesterday afternoon as 71-year-old Manuel Tomaneng.

Tomaneng was reportedly on his way to work at about 12:19 p.m. when he crossed in front of the 14-L bus as it was pulling away from the bus zone at Fifth and Mission streets, said Paul Rose, spokesman for Muni. The bus ran over his legs, and the man's lunch bag was found next to him.

The Muni operator was placed on nondriving status pending an investigation, Rose said. "We are working with police to investigate the matter," Rose said. "We are questioning the operator now, but it is too early to say exactly what happened."
