Gary Scott Holland Pleads Guilty to Murdering Kate Horan

Holland, an alleged Satanist, appeared in court today where he plead guilty to murder charges. In exchange, prosecutors dropped the attempted rape and burglary charges, and he now faces up to 50 years in state prison.
According to the Chron, Holland said that he was angry that his wages had been garnished in a previous child support case. So he got high on meth and took his frustrations out on Horan, a complete stranger.
Holland had been released from prison in April 2010 after serving 11 years of his 13-year sentence for the attempte murder of his aunt in Fresno. Six months later, he showed up at Horan's home, posing as a PG&E utility worker looking for a gas leak. After she let him into her house, he beat her to death with a pry bar. He then took off with her jewelery and cellphone, according to the DA's Office.
DNA evidence linked Holland to the crime scene; he was arrested on Nov. 5, 2010.
"The impact of Kate's murder in the neighborhood is still being felt in many ways," said Deborah Garofalo, Safety Chairperson for the Russian Hill Neighbors and Committee for Kate Horan. "We were shocked by the randomness and brutality of the crime. Kate was a good neighbor and friend to many. We hope this brings some closure for the Horan family."
Holland will be sentenced on Dec. 12, 2011.
