Dick Cheney, You're Under Arrest!
| Scary mask |
And because they never miss an opportunity to show their sheer disdain for the Tea Party-types, members are calling on local authorities to arrest former Vice President Dick Cheney as he arrives in San Francisco today to speak at a private Asian conference at the Palace Hotel.
Naturally, the group has organized an "Arrest Cheney" presence outside the hotel equip with provocative banners, flyers, and, yes, there will be people dressed in black-and-white jail "outfits," wearing Cheney masks.
More importantly, the group has sent a letter to the San Francisco Chief of Police, the San Francisco Sheriff, and the San Francisco District Attorney, demanding they arrest former President George Bush's sidekick. They've even made a strong case: Cheney's inhumane treatment and torture of detainees. Code Pink points out that under U.S. and international law, authorities have an obligation and duty to arrest and prosecute anyone who is complicit in torture and inhumane treatment.
"Dick Cheney has publicly admitted that he ordered inhumane treatment of detainees, including waterboarding, which is defined as torture under the law," said Cynthia Papermaster, a human rights activist. "We consider him a criminal, and expect our local law enforcement agencies to do their duty and arrest him -- this is no joke."
Okay, but the thought of local police arresting Cheney is still kinda funny.
