Adorable Cat Found Dead in Lagoon with Dumbbell Tied Around its Neck
| What kind of monster would kill a cat? |
A city worker found the cat -- a black and white Tuxedo feline -- yesterday in behind 1 Lagoon Drive drifting on its backside. The cat had a five-pound dumbbell tied around his neck with zip ties, says Scott Delucchi, spokesman with the PHS.
"It's awful," he said. "I can't imagine why someone would do that -- it's horrific."
Volunteers at PHS have been scouring Craigslist, searching for the cat's owner. It's clear the cat was someone's pet, because he had been declawed, Delucchi told us.
"There was no collar and no microchip," he said. "We've placed some calls, but haven't heard back yet."
Meanwhile, the PHS has put out a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed the cat. A resident has also pledged an additional $250, Delucchi said.
Sad.
