The San Carlos woman who was accused of stabbing her boyfriend's precious pet lizard, Speedy, to death will receive treatment rather than jail time.

Media outlets are reporting that 37-year-old Shawna Kim Apour suffers from a developmental disability which makes her unfit to stand trial. She was sent to the San Mateo County Department of Mental Health and likely will be placed at Cordilleras Mental Health Center in Redwood City.

The domestic dispute started around 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 12 at Apour's boyfriend's home on the 1000 block of Crestview Drive. Amid a heated argument, Apour allegedly pulled out a knife and sliced the man's 14-year-old bearded dragon. She bolted on foot, and cops later tracked Apour a few blocks away. She threatened police with a knife, and they responded with Tasers.

She was arrested and then released on bail only to be arrested again three days later when Apour was found on the railroad tracks near the San Carlos train station, police said. She again allegedly became aggressive with officers, trying to remove a deputy's weapon and stun gun.

Speedy was rushed to the vet where he received several stitches. He died four days later.
