Scientology Policy Keeps Lori Hodgson, San Jose Mom, from Visiting Son in Hospital

Lori Hodgson, ex-Scientologist, with her kids before they "disconnected" from her.
Our sister paper, the Village Voice, posted a disturbing piece today from the frontline of a Scientology scandal. Lori Hodgson, a South Bay mother who recently defected from the Church of Scientology, has been living a nightmare scenario since her 18-year-old son, Jeremy Leake, was rushed to the hospital after a serious motorcycle accident.

Hodgson's family -- her husband, daughter, and son, who are all still members of the church --  said in February that they no longer would have anything to do with her since she defected. Yesterday, they would not let Hodgson visit Jeremy in the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose because of Scientology's "disconnection" policy, described in the Voice:

Scientology's notorious policy of "disconnection" forces families to split apart when one member has been declared a "suppressive person" -- Scientology's version of excommunication. Refusing to shun an "SP" is itself considered a "suppressive" act, and so for Jessica [Hodgson's daughter] and Jeremy, they would have faced the prospect of being kicked out of the organization if they didn't cut off all ties to their own mother.

Jeremy refused to let his mother into the hospital room to see him, and hospital staff told Hodgson that since he is 18, he could decide who gets to visit him or not. This morning Hodgson planned to go back to the hospital while Jeremy has surgery, though she didn't hope to see him.

It’s always heartbreaking to read these kinds ofthings, especially since I was involved with the Moonies in the late ‘70s andhave some insights to this kind of religious community, or yes, “cult.”  Andrew, www.badmoonie.com

If Scientology was a "church" they would be supporting Lori in every way possible and not destroying a family.

I was in the church for 28 years. I disconnected from my parents when I was 23 years old, because my auditor told me my parents were SPs. My dad died during this period of time.

Scientology was my faith. If I didn't disconnect, the church would label me as an SP, and my eternal salvation would be compromised.

If an individual is labeled an SP, the church will notify all of their friends and family. If a scientologist continues to associate with an SP, the church will label the scientologist a PTS (potential trouble source) . If the association continues, the scientologist will be labeled an SP and they will lose their friends, family, and eternal salvation.

That is why a son can disconnect from a mother. If not, the son will lose his father, sister, girlfriend, and anyone else he knows that are scientologist. But most of all, the son will lose the health of his immortal spirit.

Only if you actually believe that dime store novel rubbish that noted drug addict and pedophile L Ron Hubbard wrote.

Faith is a false virtue...especially when it come to elevating a criminal to "god" status.

It appears that you all missed that it was Jeremy himself who was choosing to not let his mother in. Did you ever stop to wonder what his mother did that made him not wish to have her in his space? You think just because someone is a mother or father that abuse is to be tolerated? Gimme a break.

Give you a break? You have no facts on this situation.  I have known Lori for 30 years and she is a better mom then me. Jeremy and his sister are being mind controlled by their evil dad and this Scientology Cult. I looked into the eye of Jessica and she is lost. Discussing that a man like David Miscavige is even allowed to breath. He will burn in Hell.

Everytime you post, you make your "church" look worse.

Megadari, how about you give me a break ok ? Your interest in this subject and you posting here is for one reason and one reason only. To curry favor with your psychopathic leader David Miscavige in his few remaining days before he departs for prison and to attempt to obscure the FACT that Scientology in any form is toxic to the human condition and disconnects families.

Your cult is a dinosaur, a relic of a bygone era and every day in every way we are finishing you off. You pulled us in so now taste our boots.

Paul, I'm sure she does not have any children and has no ounce of an idea of what a mothers love for her children really is!!! I know because I love both my children Jessica and Jeremy more than anything and I'm never going to give up this fight to get them back. Thanks for always being there for me Paul...You have genuine COMPASSION!!!! The opposite of this person... Megadari.

Megadari, you should get all the facts before you make accusations. Read the Voice's full story and you will see it is the Church of Scientology and my ex husband that is keeping me from my son by their CRUEL policy of DISCONECTION!!!! My son did take my note that the nurse gave to him in the ER and Jeremy told the nurse to tell me he is ok and that he didn't want any visitors. Then the next day after Jeremy's surgery I saw my son and told him I love him and he said he loves me back!!!! Jeremy is afraid to say it is ok for me see him because of the rules he has to follow with this insane disconnection!!!!

A friend of mine has been disconnected from his sister for nine years.  They were best friends and the parents split apart.  The last time he talked to her was on the telephone and he was crying begging her not to do it, but she still disconnected.

Why was he not removed from the hospital per Scatological precepts laid down by Diabetics L. Loins Hubbub?

Maybe because in all injuries or illnesses such as this, medical treatment is necessary. Scientology is only opposed to mind-altering drugs and physical abuse by those in the field of mental health. You've seen the many lawsuits lately on big pharma and psych drugs killing people.

Clarkle

Did big pharma or psych drugs kill Lisa Mcphearson?  No $cientology did.  You people are vile and disgusting excuses for humans.  Name One thing your "church' has done to make the world a better place?  Show us a Clear, show us One OT power, show us something a scientologist can do that anyone else can't.  Scientology is nothing more than a money making scheme.

To quote from Tommy Davis 'it's a fundamental human right of a person to chose with whom to keep in touch". Speaking of Tommy, Oh Tommy, where art thou? Seems like quite a few people exercised their fundamental right to disconnect from you recently. For the sake of your pretty face, I hope you haven't been sent to RPF.

Disgust just doesn't nearly express my feelings for what Scientology does to families. And disappointment can't begin to sum up how I feel our legal system has responded to this cult. One thing we know is that if civil authorities don't provide justice for the victims of such destructive behavior, the people will seek justice on their own.
