James Holland, former Tenderloin Housing Clinic Employee, Accused of Embezzlement

​Police arrested 41-year-old James Eugene Holland for allegedly stealing money from a local nonprofit that helped to house low-income residents. 

Holland was the Director of Property Management at the Tenderloin Housing Clinic in 2009 when he reportedly embezzled more than $29,000 from the nonprofit which provides housing and legal assistance to the city's fringe populations.

Holland, who was fired from the THC in October 2009, allegedly collected rent payments from THC tenants, all of whom were elderly or disabled, and deposited the payments into his personal checking account, according to police.

He also put up an online ad soliciting for new tenants. He was able to move one new tenant into a Tenderloin Housing Clinic building without letting anyone in the agency know. He then set up his own PO Box for this tenant and had him send the rent money to that address. He collected $18,000 in rent checks from this tenant, according to police.

Police began investigating Holland and discovered in November 2010 that he had started receiving mail in Dallas, Texas. Investigators went to Dallas and eventually tracked Holland to his current place of employment where he was arrested on the 1200 block of Sunnydale Avenue in San Francisco.

Holland was charged with grand theft, embezzlement, and 19 counts of forgery. He remains in San Francisco County Jail.
