They better have towels to sit on
Supervisor Scott Wiener's proposal to sanitize public nudity has only given San Francisco's exhibitionists more reason to strip down and go au naturel.

A group of nudists are planning to take off their clothes at noon on Saturday, Sept. 24 on the Castro Commons and hang out -- literally -- for a few hours for a Nude-In. The goal is twofold: First, the bare-skinned men want to try to "normalize public nudity" and moreover, they want to protest Wiener's proposal which would force naked people to cover up a little more when they are in public.

According to the nudists:

How long can we hang out before the COPS show up? What will you say if someone challenges your right to be NAKED? Make a statement for body freedom and acceptance, come get buck naked in public with us! Remember your camera! Forget your inhibitions!

"Why is it such a big deal? It shouldn't be," says Mitch Hightower, a local nudist who organized the event. "Nudity is not a crime. Police have much bigger problems to deal with in the city than a few naked guys sitting in the sun."

It's not the first Nude-In the group has organized. In July, Hightower got about 25 men to sit on the plaza -- exposed -- which he described as "pleasant and low-key." But this next event he expects a little more activity, in part because nudists are upset over Wiener's controversial proposal. Earlier this week Wiener rolled out legislation that would require nudists to cover up when they enter a restaurant, and to place a towel, napkin, or perhaps a newspaper down before sitting anywhere in public.

Hightower says he's not really offended by Wiener's plan -- he's all for sanitary nudity. However, he believes Wiener's goal is ultimately to draw attention to the issue of public nudity and ban it altogether.

"It's bound to happen -- I've been thinking that for some time," Hightower told us.

Until then, expect to see more men walking around town, wearing only a smile.

Innovative chefs combine the Bay area's abundance of organicproduce, seafood, free-range meats, and Northern California wines to createfabulous dining experiences where taste sensations are virtually unsurpassed.So-called "small plate" menus are gaining popularity as an affordableway to sample more options. Also hot at many restaurants are fixed-price ortasting menus that often include dessert.

Frankly I find it offensive. I"m all for it @ the beach, around the house, inside your local bar, street fairs,ect...not walking around the City. Holding your rally and walking from Castro to Sanchez naked is sort of like putting a " I support Gay marriage" sign in the window of a home or business here in The Castro. Take your cause to The Marina or Chinatown and see how long you last...It wont be long. By the way, temps will be dropping 25 degrees over the weekend.

It's really sad all the people who feel such shame about the human body.  I would suggest that you people go get counseling to learn why you feel that being human is such a terrible feeling for you.  Also, since you also seem to think that if you don't want to see whatever it is that you don't want to see, and that others should respect that, then please cover your knees, elbows, hands, legs, face and head, because some are offended by you exposing yourself.  Now you might realize how silly and sick you come across.

As for me, I've decided to vacation in SF this coming summer, where I can dress as comfortably as "I" want for a change.  I'm tired of being forced to comply with others' sick aversions.

There is absolutely no difference between adults walking around naked shaking their junk about for all to be forced to see, most disgustingly for CHILDREN to see, and the perverts who stand outside school playgrounds flashing their shit in a trench coat. Whether they are aroused or not, they are getting off on forcing people to look at them no matter how offensive or disturbing it is to many. I guess shaking their dicks about in front of kids is just their free expression. Perhaps they drag their nude children around with them for shits and giggles. I guess NAMBLA will be all for it. I'd like to say that I have no problem with nudists in designated areas, resorts, beaches, wherever they have a communal space, being kind and respectful enough to not force their lifestyle on those who have no choice but to see and  will have reactions ranging  from traumatized, neutral, amused or hostile. I am actually quite a radically liberal person in my politics and beliefs, who nearly always comes down on the side of the minority but for ONCE, in this one instance, I am willing to throw in my towel with the majority in sheer disgust and dismay. This is sick. Not to mention nauseatingly unhygienic in all possible ways. As long as no dissenter resorts to actual violence I think that hostility and expressed disgust are some appropriate reactions and I hope these people receive them. They have no regard for how their behavior may be hurting others, no regard for the trauma they may cause even if that is not their intent. I lived in San Francisco as a young child and have always had the fondest memories of there. If there was any city whose lifestyle and politics I identified with most it would be this one but learning all this I would probably not go back. We should have control over the naked bodies of others that we have to see, be exposed unwillingly to and endure, not have them forced on us.  SICK
