The last two University of California jailed hikers have reportedly hopped a flight out of Tehran and are en route to America.

Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, who were convicted this year in Iran for spying on behalf of the United States, were seen by reporters leaving Evin prison shortly after dark on Wednesday. The two were taken to the airport and will fly to Muscat, the capital, before departing for the United States.

Bauer and Fattal were arrested along the Iran-Iraq border in July 2009 and sentenced to eight years in prison. Sarah Shourd, an Oakland resident who was arrested with them, was freed last year on bail due to poor health. They have denied the espionage charges, and claim they were just three friends hiking.

The release brings closure to the two-year drama that only intensified strained relations between Washington and Iran. This summer, Shourd, hosted a benefit for Bauer, her finacee, where she showcased his work as a freelance photojournalist in the Middle East.

Great and Merciful God, I hope Shane and Josh learn how to read a map and that they will never ever do that again.
