Public Nudity Looks Much Different in New York

Categories: WTF?
San Francisco's nudists will tell you that they like to strip down in public for political reasons --  and of course to "normalize" nakedness. And while the city debates the nuances of public nudity, we wanted to give you a quick glimpse into how New Yorkers cope with their exposed residents.

New York City artist Andy Golub is attempting to redefine public nudity -- and doing it well. He paints naked people ... in public.

California prohibits public nudity when it is offending someone, yet in cities like San Francisco, you're more likely to get arrested for jaywalking (clothed) than you are for walking around the neighborhood naked. Meanwhile, we're told that New Yorkers can go au naturel for art.

Now that's art!

That's not to say Golub hasn't had his run-ins with the law over his exhibits. Golub has been arrested already twice this year while painting people in Times Square. Those arrests were quickly voided after the cops were told that Golub was in fact acting within the law.

We could easily see San Francisco embracing Golub's public art -- as long as his naked models have something to sit on.

Read more about Golub's artwork on our Exhibitionist blog (how apropos).
