Michelle Le Vigil to Be Held Tomorrow Night
| Michelle Le |
The vigil, which will be held at Samuel Merritt University where Le was six months away from graduating, will be held four months to the day that Le was first reported missing. On May 27, Le was at Kaiser Hospital in Hayward for her mentoring program when she told classmates she was taking a quick break to go to her car. But she never came back.
According to the website dedicated to Le:
Michelle is well-loved, compassionate, and serves as an inspiration to all those whose lives she touched. Beautiful inside and out, Michelle wanted to strive for a selfless, giving life where she would have been able to help those in need. On behalf of our family, this vigil is our chance to thank her loved ones, the community and other key people for their help in bringing her home.
On Sept. 7, Hayward police arrested 27-year-old Giselle Esteban on suspicion of murdering Le, her former high school friend. Esteban, who is seven months pregnant, told reporters she openly hated Le, but denied having anything to do with her disappearance.
However, police say they caught Esteban on video surveillance in the parking garage where Le was last seen. They believe she killed Le in the garage then dumped her body in the Sunol Canyon. Le's car was found the next morning parked on a residential street a half-mile from the hospital. Her blood was inside the car.
Esteban had long been considered a person of interest in the incident, which quickly turned from a missing person to a murder case. Police searched Esteban's home and later found Le's DNA on Esteban's athletic shoes, but it wasn't until last week that a volunteer found Le's body near a dirt path near the Sunol Canyon in Pleasanton.
Medical authorities have not yet said how Le was killed.
The vigil will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Samuel Merritt University, 450 30th St. in Oakland.
