Giselle Esteban, Murder Suspect in Michelle Le Death, Is Taken to Hospital
Alameda County Sergeant J.D. Nelson wouldn't provide details about her medical condition, but a judge told reporters earlier that it was related to her pregnancy. "She wasn't attacked or anything," Nelson told us.
Esteban, who is seven months pregnant, has been charged with murdering 26-year-old Le, a former high school friend whom she said she "openly hated" for stealing her boyfriend.
Esteban's arraignment has been moved to Sept. 9 at 2 p.m., according to news reports.
Hayward police arrested Esteban yesterday morning as she left her condo complex in Union City. She became a person of interest a few weeks after Le was reported missing on May 27. Le, who would have graduated from nursing school in a few months, was at Kaiser Hospital doing a mentoring program when she decided to take a quick break. She told classmates she was headed out to her car in the parking garage.
Her instructor called police when Le failed to come back. Police found her vehicle parked a half-mile from the hospital on a residential street. The doors were locked and Le's blood was found inside the car.
Police traced her cellphone to the Niles Canyon area, where they searched for Le's body, which they have not yet recovered. They also found surveillance of the parking garage that shows Esteban was in there when Le entered the lot. When police searched Esteban's house, they found Le's DNA on her athletic shoes.
They believe Esteban killed Le inside the parking garage.
