Update: Fire now out. See bottom of piece for details.

We just got word about a blaze burning in the Lower Haight. We called the Fire Department to get details on the fire which is on the corner of Fillmore and Haight streets. No word back yet, but SF Weekly staffer Andrew Nilsen is at the scene and says the fire is spreading rapidly.

Here is some video he shot:

Update, 5:30 p.m.:
Firefighters gained the upper hand and quenched the four-alarm blaze at around 5:10 p.m. Nilsen interviewed fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge, who said the conflagration was sparked on the third floor of the structure. Firefighters are unsure how. "It's under investigation, but, early on, [firefighters] heard explosions or popping noises," she said. "I don't know if it's paint or fireworks."

The third floor and attic of the Haight and Fillmore structure were extensively damaged. The fire was contained to just the affected structure. So far, no human or animal casualties are reported.
