The man who was shot and killed Monday morning during a heated argument in the Mission District has been identified as 45-year-old Dwayne Spruell.

Neighbors told reporters that they heard loud arguing sometime after 2 a.m. on Monday morning near Camp and Guerrero streets, where drug deals are commonplace. They reported hearing multiple gunshots, a pause, then a scream for help.

When police arrived, they found Spruell -- a San Francisco resident -- bleeding by a tree. He had been shot once in the head and once in the chest, according to San Francisco police.

Police are still investigating the shooting, which was the Mission's third in the last week. However, neighbors told media outlets that they believe the shooting was a drug deal gone bad. Residents say this location is a well-known drug ground where users go to "shoot up" and buy drugs.

The shooting is the city's 35th of the year. Last week, two men were shot and killed. Edson Lacayo, an identified gang member, was found shot to death on Hampshire Street. Earlier that day, Gaspar Puch-Tzek, who was a local cook, was shot in the head while taking a smoke break outside his place of work on 19th and San Carlos streets. He was mistaken for a gang member, which police say he was not.

Police have increased patrols in the Mission neighborhood to try to calm the recent gang violence.
