|Parking your rear end|
We told you about PARK(ing) Day
, the city's whimsical attempt to redesign metered parking spaces into improvised urban space. SF Weekly
went to check it out, and aside from the outdoor Mad Men
offices, we saw petting zoos and makeshift parks taking over our beloved parking spots.
But no event is truly complete in San Francisco until the local nudists show up.
Yep, naked guys -- the subject du jour
-- had to make an appearance at the event du jour. George Davis, one of the city's most frequently undressed men, and, incidentally, a failed mayoral candidate, wrote on a local online nudist board today that he'd be setting up in a parking space in front of the Castro Theatre:
"For Park(ing) Day, today Friday, I am putting up a "Garden of Eden" park, complete with live nude Adams and Eves, snakes, and tree.We will pass out apple slices to passersby.; I'll try to get a park(ing) space in front of the Castro Theater between noonish and 4p.m. See you."
This was timed well with Supervisor Scott Wiener's recently introduced legislation that aims to sanitize public nudity
; he wants to force all urban nudist to put down a towel, napkin, newspaper, pamphlet, or whatever, before sitting his or her bare ass on a public surface. We're guessing that will apply to parking spots as well.
