Annoyed Neighbor Is Beaten While Photographing Bar Patrons Puking

This makes me want to throw up
A NOPA woman who was sickened -- literally -- by the stream of unruly bar patrons puking near her doorstep decided to make it into an exhibit.

According to police, the 50-year-old woman -- who had been complaining about noise coming from the nearby bars along Fulton Street and Masonic Avenue -- grabbed her camera on Saturday night to shoot photos of rowdy patrons as evidence. As she walked around the corner, she came up to two women hunched over, barfing up their booze.

Knowing a good photo when she sees one, the woman started snapping pictures, which only aggravated the situation. Two men who were apparently escorting the heaving women shouted at the photographer: "Get out of here! Give them some privacy."

As the woman continued taking photos, the two men hit her, one striking her face and the other kicked her in the butt; they tried to take the camera out of her hands, said Police Captain Denis O'Leary.

"It was an attempted robbery, but they were more trying to protect the honor of these two young ladies," O'Leary says.

Let's be clear, there really is no honor in retching on the sidewalk after a night of drinking.

The woman managed to keep her camera and more importantly the photos, which we bet are as  dark and entertaining as a Diane Arbus exhibit.

"Let's be clear, there really is no honor in retching on the sidewalk after a night of drinking."Excuse me, Erin Sherbert, whether that's a disregard for logic on your part or just a comprehension failure, it's astonishing coming from a journalist. You don't protect the honor of anyone by shielding them from association with something honorable. Chivalry may be quaint but it has its own logic like anything else. You people here in the comment thread are horrible. Taking photographs of people when they are in a fallen state is just slimy. Especially in this time of Facebook firings and gotcha paparazzi. It's a world more slimy than drinking past your limit and making a minor public mess and a fool of yourself on the way home some random night. You should all have your cameras opened up and puked in.

This newer generation of San Franciscan ( or American , actually ) has turned into the amoral , libertine equivalent of the savage children of 'Lord of the Flies' anyway , so..Moral relativism speaks to all of their comments and situation assessments. Nihilists a la 'Clock Work Orange'.

So you wouldn't mind people puking, uriinating, etc where YOU live?

I do enjoy living next to a popular bar; in fact I live here on purpose; consequently I do not "mind" the location's foibles. Thanks for your concern. How about you, do you seek out places of residence which you actually cannot stand?

Sorry, if you are doing something out in public, then you have forfeited your right to privacy. Also, if you don't want something embarrassing posted online (which wasn't the photographer's intention in any event, she wanted to use it as evidence to file a complaint), then do NOT make the choice to engage in embarassing behavior.  The harsh reality of life is that we are all accountable for our own behavior.  Like most people, I have done embarrasing things at various times in my life, and I have had to suffer the consequences of my decisions.  These barfing women are no different.  They chose to consume too much alcohol, and then they chose to barf up next to someone's residence.  Getting embarrassed should at least be the penalty they have to pay for their own poor choices.  Chivalry was a stupid tradition that needs to have the last nail hammered in its coffin.  A grown woman should be treated like any other adult and be made to suffer the consequences of her own poor behavior.  Embarrassment serves a very important function--it helps to deter us from making the same stupid decisions over and over again in life.  Most of us would benefit from being embarrassed more often, not less.

Yeah Chris, one of the embarrassing things you've done is post that comment.

No one said anything about rights. This is about decency. Decency entails extending basic courtesies to strangers who have not necessarily earned them. One of those basic courtesies is the benefit of the doubt. When you see a couple girls puking on the curb, you may think you know their story, but the fact is you don't. So you either do the decent thing or you don't, and it comes down to what type of person you are. Now we know what type of person you are, don't we?

Get over it, saty.  Anything you do in public is public, and there are cameras everywhere.  And I'd call the authorities to make sure the woman was OK and wanted to go with those "chivalrous" jerks, who are no gentlemen.  Sorry, but if you're daft enough to get so out of control, you deserve public scorn.

So ... were the two men arrested?  They must have been since officer O'Leary is quoted as saying this was "an attempted robbery." Right? Also, puking on a public street qualifies at least as "drunk and disorderly" qualifying the two women for arrest as well. Just saying ...

Capt. Denis O'Leary..Right there's the main problem..  "..but they were more trying to protect the honor.." Stop with the 'justifying the credibility' of criminals in the act..We get enough of that from the D.A. and public defenders offices , already !

Hmmmm . .. .how does O'Drunky know that they didn't give her a roofie and were taking her back for some online snuff porn?

Flemingrandolph

That's the idea..O'Leary's desperately trying to be 'liberally objective' in the prerequisite San Francisco style , while these degenerates would 'date rape drug' ( roofie her ) and bring her life to a grisly end , for all he knows..With law enforcers/officials like him , who needs criminals anyway , here in S'ci F'i..It's like having Giles De Reis as the constable..'Libertines!!'..got'ta love 'em..

how drunk was O'Leary when he made that statement?  Those slags have no honor, and attacking a middle aged woman because your skank can't hold her booze indicate their mothers made the wrong choice on abortioni.

Perhaps he was speaking from personal experience.  You know, O'Leary.  Oh and there's no honor that needs protection when you're hurling up after drinking shots and yeagers.

This block sometimes looked like State College, PA (Collegiate Party Capital of the World) just before the Poleng Lounge shut down.

I thought things had mellowed out since then.

That's quite an aggressive NIMBY...
