Videos Show Abusive Fans at 49ers and Raiders Game, Two People Shot

Categories: Crime

Police are looking for anyone who might have seen the horrific shooting and beating incidents at the 49ers and Raiders preseason game over the weekend that left one man unconscious in the bathroom.

The violence broke out at about 7 p.m. when a 26-year-old man was severely beaten upstairs in the men's restroom. An hour later, a 24-year-old man who was wearing a "Fuck the 49ers" t-shirt was shot multiple times in the stomach while in the parking lot at Candlestick Park. He managed to drive himself to the stadium's security office for help. Both victims remain in critical condition.

In a separate incident, another man was shot multiple times. Police have detained a person of interest in one of the shootings, but no arrests have been made, SFPD tells reporters. The detained man was reportedly wearing Raiders apparel.
In the beating incident, the suspect was described as a 6-foot-tall Samoan or Pacific Islander in his late 20s, with a goatee and a ponytail, weighing more than 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, police said.

Videos of drunk and abusive fans circulated the Internet over the weekend, showing fights among rival fans in both the stands and the parking lot during Saturday's game, which drew tens of thousands of people. Police say they have no idea what motivated the attacks; it could have just been rival fans fighting. But SFPD says it did add extra officers to help out with security that evening, considering the deep rivalry between the two Bay Area teams.

"We believe we had sufficient staffing for the event." Sergeant Michael Andraychak was quoted saying int he Chron.

Both Mayor Ed Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan issued statements, pledging to fully punish those responsible for the attacks.

"Violence will not be tolerated in either of our stadiums," the mayors said in a joint statement. "Fans come to our stadiums to enjoy an afternoon of football, not to be subjected to intimidation or violence."
