The woman was sitting near the rear exit door at about 9 p.m. when she noticed two men walking toward her. They took a seat nearby, and when the bus stopped, one of the men grabbed her purse.
The woman really didn't want to lose her purse; she tightened her grip and the robber kept pulling, eventually dragging her to the floor and down the steps of the bus onto the pavement, according to San Francisco police.
By this point, the woman was injured and bruised, so she reluctantly let go of the bag. The two men grabbed it and ran off.
"This happens all the time -- literally everyday," Officer Harry Soulette tells us. "People who carry purses, even men who carry manpurses, they don't want to give up their belongings, obviously. But is the risk of holding onto it, and getting injured, or them pulling a knife really worth what's inside?"
In short, Soulette says, victims should just let go of the damn purse.
Better yet, follow these tips to prevent purse snatchers from victimizing you:
• Keep your cash, ID, and credit cards on your person -- not in your purse.
• Wear your purse underneath a coat.
• Make eye contact; let potential criminals know you have seen their face.
"Just don't act like a victim," Soulette says.
