Another accident
The woman was struck by a Muni bus this afternoon while walking in the Castro District died, according to SFPD.

Police say the woman -- who was only identified as between the ages of 25 and 30 --  was at the corner of 18th and Hartford streets, about 90 percent through the crosswalk when the Muni bus hit her.
Sergeant Michael Andraychak says the accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. The bus had just gone out of service and was being rerouted to supplement the F line on Market Street when the accident happened. The driver made a left-hand turn on 18th Street and hit the female pedestrian.

Muni spokeswoman Kristen Holland tells us they might be able to route around the accident. We will report the story as it unfolds. Check back for updates.

My niece, age 23, almost 24, was killed by a San Fransico transit bus yesterday and I'm trying to learn more and see if this could be her. She has a house near Mission Park. Is Hartford St near here?  Thank you anyone who can shed light on this tragic accident.  Aunt Genie

I'm so sorry for the loss you and your family are suffering Genie.  Your niece was very well loved by many, many people who worked and enjoyed life with her.

Mission Dolores Park is near Hartford Street, yes.

The bus was not hijacked...that is a rumor! The bus had been taken off it's regular schedule and was going up Hartford St. to relieve the F train because it had gotten too full...this happens fairly often. The bus driver was in the police car because yes, he is under investigation but also to protect him from people causing these horrific rumors. Think how awful he must feel about this ACCIDENT he's caused???????!!!!!!!!!!!

The bus was not being driven by a muni operator; the bus had been stolen a few blocks earlier. The suspect was in police cars at the scene.

Was that true? I passed through the scene shortly thereafter and heard that rumor but so far all news articles are to the contrary. They all say it was acting in Shuttle mode.

Yes, that's also what I heard from witnesses at the scene.  The story I heard, multiple times, was that the Muni driver stopped to get a cup of coffee and someone hijacked the bus and took it for a ride.  This might explain the reason why the bus was going up Hartford street.  I have lived on Hartford for many years and have NEVER seen a bus driving up the street. Hoping somebody gets the story right!
