Cyclist dies
The cyclist who was hit by a truck yesterday morning as she rode along Mission Street downtown died last night. Medical authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Nancy Ho, a San Francisco resident.

Ho was hit yesterday at about 8:04 a.m. when she made an illegal left-hand turn at the intersection of Mission and Fremont. A food delivery truck collided with Ho, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

Lieutenant Troy Dangerfield told SF Weekly that Ho must have miscalculated her turn.

Last week, a speeding cyclist blew a red light and hit a 60-year-old woman as she walked through a crosswalk at Mission and Embarcadero. The woman remains in the hospital with a life-threatening head injury.

What is this "they" stuff? There are plenty of cyclists that obey traffic laws, such as myself. You just don't hear about us because we don't die or impose death/injury :)

Lies. Nothing is illegal for a bicyclist in SF! I demand an immediate retraction and apology!

When are cyclists going to learn that they need to OBEY traffic rules/laws as well?

When will car drivers realize that they kill people EVERY SINGLE DAY and that their vehicles are death machines and that they run on fossil fuels that spark wars  all over the world and that the burning of those fossil fuels is causing global warming and destroying our planet as we know it.  But yeah bicyclists are the real problem. That's obvious.

They'll learn when they're required to have a license and can be ticketed.

Bicyclists get tickets all the time. All the time.

Ummm cyclists can and are ticketed. I see it happen regularly and have known several people do get tickets for illegal turns or going the wrong way.

I bike almost everyday and I do agree that cyclists need to learn to obey traffic laws better. Don't blow thru signals or make illegal turns and always look around...even if you are obeying the law there may be a car that isnt and when its a fight between bike and car, the car always wins.

Oh and always wear a helmet, why any sane person would not wear a helmet in this city is beyond me.

Right - when an automobile driver miscalculates a left turn he gets to pay a body shop a few hundred $. When a bicyclist does the same thing she dies. It is also hard to believe that the cyclist just turned right in front of that truck. The no left turn rule is not for safety - it is to keep traffic moving at that intersection.
