Federal authorities say Marshall McMains Goldberg, the California man charged with kidnapping his elderly mother from her home in Ashland, Ore., could be hiding out in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In May, a Grand Jury indicted Goldberg, 55, on charges that he kidnapped his 85-year-old mother, Doris, who has been labeled as "endangered" because she suffers from Alzheimer's.

Oregon authorities believe he took his mother and left the state -- and was possibly headed to California.

"He has known acquaintances in the Bay Area,"  FBI Portland Division spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele told reporters.

He is described as a white man, 5 foot 9, weighing 160 to 165 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and might be wearing glasses. Doris Goldberg is described as a white woman, about 5 foot 1 and weighing 135 pounds. She has white hair and blue eyes.

The FBI suspects Marshall Goldberg may be driving a 1996 gold Oldsmobile four-door sedan with the California license plate 3SZY023.
