Drunk Drivers Hate Other Drunk Drivers

Everyone hates drunk drivers -- even drunks
The news that police are staging a DUI checkpoint the entire weekend starting Friday should be enough to sober you up. But just in case you still plan on hitting the bottle hard to celebrate America's Independence Day, here is some blunt advice: Don't drink and drive.

If for no other reason than you will likely wind up with a bad hangover, a ticket, and a heavy load of self-loathing.

"We've had a significant social change in the way people think about the crime -- now even drunk drivers hate drunk drivers," Captain Al Casciato says. "There just seems that there is no sympathy for those driving under the influence from anyone -- not even from themselves after they sober up."

Cut from the same cloth, and yet "Et tu, Drunkie?"

That could get ugly, so it's a good thing police will be there to keep these  antagonistic groups away from each other -- and off the road.

The checkpoint, part of the SFPD's Avoid the 8 campaign, will begin at 8:30 p.m. Friday and last until Monday morning on Lombard and Divisadero streets.
