The funny thing is Weiner reportedly called on Pelosi for advice earlier today, explaining to her that he indeed sent the lewd photos of his bulging briefs to a woman in Seattle. He had been denying it and claiming his Twitter account had been hacked -- until now. For some reason, he turned to Pelosi for help. She essentially advised her fellow Democrat to be a man -- perhaps like the one in the photo he sent -- and tell the truth.
Well, that backfired.
Now Pelosi wants to investigate what he has admitted. Less than two hours after he publicly confessed to sending explicit photos to at least six women, she called for an investigation to determine whether government resources were used in the photo-sharing lovefest.
"I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred," Pelosi said in a statement released to the media. "I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony's wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents."
Weiner, who is a newlywed, gave a tearful apology earlier today, but insisted he had no plans to resign.
"I tweeted a photograph of myself that I
intended as a direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle,"
he told reporters. "Once I realized I had posted it to Twitter, I
panicked. I took it down and said that I had been hacked. I then
continued to stick to that story, which was a hugely regrettable
