A Redwood City man is being jailed after cops saw him beating his sweet little pup, Bucket.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that police busted John Abdon Johnson, 56, kicking Bucket in the head and ribs on May 13. When a cop tried to get him to stop, Johnson told police he had the right to beat his own dog.

He actually doesn't have that right, as he soon found out.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, and pleaded no contest in court. He was sentenced on Friday to one month in San Mateo County Jail. Johnson was also ordered to take anger management classes and he will be on probation for two years, according to the Merc.

More importantly, he is no longer allowed to own or care for any animal in his home.

Bucket was checked out by vets, and is doing just fine.
