​Yesterday SF Weekly told readers the sad news of baby Izak Jesus Garcia-Lopez, who was shot in the head in a case of mistaken identity. His mother, 22-year-old Ivonne Garcia Lopez, was shot in the leg as she tried to shield her sons from two gunmen.

Lopez spoke to reporters yesterday, explaining how she threw her body over her 4-year-old son, Isaiah, and 3-month-old Izak as one of the shooters fired multiple rounds at the family's car. They had just left a baby shower in East Palo Alto around 1 a.m. Sunday when they were sprayed with gunfire.

"They destroyed my family," she told reporters. "I am so devastated with this loss."

She cried as she talked about what happened that night after her family got into their car, parked on Wisteria Lane. She said she and her husband, 22-year-old Oscar Jimenez, were driving away from the party when the gunmen opened fire. The parents were injured and Isaiah was unharmed, yet the baby died an hour later at Stanford Hospital.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the shooting, yet say one more suspect is on the loose. They believe the shooting was in retaliation for a May 31 beating but say the shooters had the wrong people. Neither Lopez nor her husband knew the gunmen.

"We haven't done bad to anyone," she told reporters. "I don't know why they picked us."
