Police are on the hunt for a raging driver who gunned down a San Francisco Parking employee  as he cruised through the Bayview District early this morning.

Police say at about 8:30 a.m. today, a Department of Parking and Traffic worker was driving through the Bayview, where he was supposed to be painting city curbs. The victim and another employee were cruising in a clearly marked city vehicle, with the city seal and reflectors, when the victim did a quick U-turn near the intersection of Quint Street and Palou Avenue.

This apparently pissed off one San Francisco driver.

The angry driver started yelling and cursing at the two city workers. They decided to drive away, so as to avoid confrontation -- or possibly getting shot. Before they got away, the suspect took out a handgun and fired multiple shots into the city vehicle, says Officer Albie Esparza.

The shooter drove off and the victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, Esparza says, He has since been released.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, in his 30's, wearing a red baseball cap and a red t-shirt. He was driving a medium to dark-colored vehicle.

"It was a road rage incident," Esparza told SF Weekly.
