Aaron Peskin Questions Whether Gavin Newsom Can Be a Member of Local Democratic Party

Dear Gavin ...

Upon hearing news that Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom would move his family to the ritzier county of Marin, you'd expect to hear his political rivals say something like "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Instead, they are going to great lengths to remove any remaining ties Newsom might have to San Francisco. Aaron Peskin, chairman of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee -- and Newsom's longtime political rival -- fired off a letter yesterday to the state's second-in-command asking him to please, for the record, clarify where he is living these days.

According to state law, as Peskin cites in the letter, Newsom can no longer serve as an ex-officio for the San Francisco Democratic Club if he isn't living here.

According to the letter:

The state elections code and the SFDCCC bylaws both clearly state that an ex-officio member must reside in San Francisco in order to maintain his or her membership on the SFDCCC. Pursuant to state law, as set forth above, if you are in fact a Marin County resident, you would no longer be a member of the SFDCCC and would instead be a member of the Marin Democratic County Central Committee."

Peskin then goes on to ask Newsom to respond to the letter ASAP and clarify his current address. Newsom's spokesman, Francisco Castillo, kicked our call over to Peter Ragone, who told us the follwoing:

"If Peskin spent as much time trying to win elections as he did obsessing about Gavin Newsom over the past few years, the Democratic Party in SF might be an even stronger organization."

Amazing how petty Peskin in. And people wonder why the DCCC and the Progressive movement is in the state that it is. Here's a clue: Your leader is amazingly ineffective and has the maturity of a zygote.

How is this petty? He is following the rules and Peskin has every right to do this. Why should Newsom receive special treatment. How would you feel about Chris Daly being on the DCCC when he was moving to Fairfield.

What's ironic about Ragone's comment is this is not about Newsom at all, but is about Peskin trying to win elections for his favored candidates by taking one vote for his opponents of the DCCC.

It's petty because Newsom just had a baby and needed more space. He didn't buy a place in Marin, he is living in his wife's place. He hasn't even put his SF place on the market yet. So Peskin has to jump at the chance to kick the duly elected Democratic Lt Gov off the Committee.

And Daly WAS on the DCCC while living in Fairfield. Peskin is so far beyond hypocritical that he couldn't find it on a map. Idiot.
