Suicidal Man at Market Street Talked Down from the Ledge
A suicidal man went to the top of a downtown building Monday morning and stayed on the edge of the roof for nearly an hour before police were able to talk him down.
Sgt. Michael Andraychak told SF Weekly that at about 10:22 a.m. on Monday, someone called police to report a man standing on the building at the 600 block of Market Street, "looking down."

Police arrived and closed down surrounding streets. They also evacuated a coffee shop in the lower part of the building in case the man jumped.
Shortly after, officers went to the building's roof and called for a Spanish-speaking interpreter and the crisis negotiator team. At about 11:10 a.m., they were able to persuade the man to step away from the ledge and back onto the roof of the building, where he was taken into custody.
The man was likely taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation, although Andraychak could not confirm that. He also couldn't confirm the height of the downtown building, which also houses Jeffrey's Toys, news outlets are reporting.
As has happened with other public suicides and suicide attempts in the city, Monday's event attracted many onlookers.
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending.
