Sherman Brown, Man Beaten in Bernal Heights, Dies; Homicide No. 21
| A fatal fight |
Brown died at the hospital Tuesday, where he had been since the brutal fight between him and a 32-year-old man.
The fight started on March 22 about 7:10 p.m. on the 400 block of Prentiss Street in Bernal Heights. Brown was punched and kicked repeatedly until he blacked out. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police had arrested Anthony Pacrem on suspicion of aggravated assault, but prosecutors told reporters that they have now upgraded those charges to murder.
Pacrem will be arraigned on Thursday.
Brown's death makes it homicide No. 21 for San Francisco this year. The last homicide was on April 11, when police found the body of 16-year-old Andy Zeng inside a Silver Terrace duplex. Zeng was found shot and his body was doused in gasoline. Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of murder. However, the boy claims Zeng was accidentally shot while the two were playing with a .22-caliber revolver.
