Schwarzenegger and Shriver Split: What Will This Mean for the Governator Cartoon?

​Next year, former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is supposed to release his much anticipated post-politics project, The Governator, a cartoon series based loosely on the actor turned politician's life.

The animation is centered on the Governator, a washed-up politician who gets back into fighting crime. The show draws on personal elements in Schwarzenegger's life: his mansion in Brentwood (also called the Arnold Cave), a massive fleet of superpowered vehicles, and, of course, his wife, Maria Shriver.

But news broke yesterday the two are splitting up. So what does that mean for Schwarzenegger's animated alter ego? Will he go back to being a playboy?

A potentially divorced superhero?

From what we've gleaned from interviews, Schwarzenegger has been clear that the animated character would be living a double life as a family man and a superhero. According to the Daily Telegraph, "The challenge for the hero is to fight crime, but maintain family life by being home for dinner and the PTA."

But it now appears that the superhero will have to stop for takeout after a hard day of ass kicking.

Although the couple have been very private about why they decided to split after 25 years of marriage, we came across one possible sign of tension. According to Entertainment Weekly:

Schwarzenegger confessed that, as of six weeks ago, Shriver was unaware she was going to be a character on the show. "I have never had a conversation with Maria about any of this," the former governor said. "It will be a big surprise for her."
