Is it Osama or Obama Bin Laden?

Fox News probably doesn't think there is a difference between Osama and Obama
Twitter was abuzz after Fox News made the Freudian slip yesterday when announcing that Obama, not Osama, bin Laden is dead. Sure, the names are off by only one letter, but that one letter spells the difference between the leader of the White House and the leader of al-Qaeda.

And that's a huge difference.

Fox reportedly said it was an easy mistake to make (especially, we assume, for conservative news outlets) and apparently, Fox is right -- this time.

We did a quick search to find out just how prevalent that unfortunate mistake was yesterday after President Obama delivered the news of bin Laden's death. And while Fox News certainly received the most ridicule, plenty of other media outlets around the globe made the same Obama and Osama typo.

The Hook, Charlottesville's weekly newspaper, posted a photo of happy crowds celebrating yesterday. Unfortunately, they were celebrating Obama bin Laden's death, according to the Web site. The paper has since corrected the following error:

"Joyous crowds gathered at the White House in response to the news that Obama bin Laden was dead."

And then, in the first paragraph of a story in the Providence Journal in Rhode Island:

"A former commander of the Rhode Island National Guard reacted to the news of Obama bin Laden's death with 'elation' but says the United States cannot afford to let up in its defense against terrorism."

Here's a really bad one from NBC.com in Montana:

"He thinks of the pain, the suffering and all the loss that Obama bin Laden caused all over the world."

And finally, Asia One in Singapore reports:

"Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) hailed the death of Obama bin Laden as a 'significant milestone in the struggle against international terrorism.''"

You get the point.
