Texas shootout
The man accused of shooting three people -- including a 3-year-old girl -- on Halloween in San Francisco last year killed himself during a shootout with Houston police this weekend.

The Houston Chronicle reports that 20-year-old Jesse Brown killed himself in a parking garage while the Houston SWAT team looked for him.

Police believe Brown, who has been on the lam since the Halloween shootings, was on his way to Georgia. He was at a Greyhound bus terminal when a screener reportedly saw the butt of a pistol in his duffel bag.

The screener stalled Brown while calling for an off-duty officer who was working at the station.

When the officer arrived, he attempted to talk to Brown, who wouldn't listen and tried to leave.  The cop ordered him to stop, but Brown kept going -- so the officer shocked him with a stun gun, according to media outlets.

Brown then shot at the cop, who fired back. Brown ran to a nearby McDonald's and pulled another pistol from his bag, shooting at more cops who had been called to the scene. He then ran into a parking garage. A SWAT team was canvassing the garage when they heard a single gunshot. Brown was found on the fourth-floor stairwell with a gunshot wound to his head and the pistol next to him, according to media reports.

Brown had been accused of shooting three people, including a 3-year-old girl who was on her way home from trick-or-treating with her grandfather in San Francisco last Halloween. The girl and her grandfather were shot outside the Potrero Hill housing projects where Brown lived. Another man, who was the intended target, was also hit but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

"One of the theories that we're working under is that he's ... known that San Francisco authorities have been after him," police spokesman John Cannon told the Chronicle.
