Ouch! Circumcision Ban Makes the Cut for November Ballot

Get off my dick!
At first glance, the notion of banning male circumcision in San Francisco seemed so unfathomable when it was proposed last year that even Mayor Gavin Newsom, tripped up by the notion, blurted out to reporters: "Not even Chris Daly would propose this."

But that once far-fetched, only-in-San Francisco proposal is now kinda real. Elections officials confirmed today that the measure has officially qualified for the November ballot, which means voters will decide whether it should be illegal for anyone to remove the foreskin from a male under the age of 18.

While the issue has riled up lawyers and religious leaders alike, the measure's main backer, Lloyd Schofield, insists that his only purpose is to "protect the children." And apparently there are thousands of voters out there who agree. The measure needed only 7,168 signatures to qualify for the ballot, yet it reportedly received 7,743.

But we know how easy it is to get a measure on the ballot in San Francisco. The question is how easy will it be to persuade voters to commit this outlandish proposal to law?

Without seeing any polling on the topic, Jim Ross, a local political consultant, tells SF Weekly that voters tend not to favor seemingly frivolous ballot measures -- and well, this one falls into that category.

To prove this point, Ross reminded us of the ballot measure that called for renaming one of the city's sewage treatment plants after George W. Bush -- and that failed. "If that doesn't pass with voters, this one will have a hard time passing as well," he says. "Voters will look at this and wonder why they are voting on this."

This is long over due. Why do religious people feel they must change gods work? I thought god was perfect. Guess he dose not know how to make a penis. Good thing for the religious nut jobs to fix his work!!!

So let's think - God and nature provide the body parts, and in America a neo-natal non-religoius operation is performed on day-old babies - boys only - (what part of the girls' anatomy would you like to scalpel off?)  It is barbaric. No medical reason.  If you are Jewish - have a Bris and be happy - if you are Muslim - do it at puberty.  The issue is non-religious mutilation of a functioning body part a day after birth.  Without the patient's consent.  Most of the world does not circumcize as a standard procedure.   Why do we?  This practice for non-religious purposes was only introduced at the time of Kellog and Queen Victoria.  If you need to do it for your religion, go for it and explain it to your sons.  But do not pretend we all need to folllow this unreasonable practice.

I'm Jewish and I support this ban. I left my sons whole. It is not my right as a Jew or as their parent to permanently alter their bodies in the name of religion. If they want to be circumcised that is their decision to make when they are consenting adults.

People are ignorant about this issue. Forexample, female circumcision was banned inthe U.S. by federal law in 1996. Foreignerswere coming here and asking this to be donebecause that was their custom in the countrythey came from. You're probably against female circ, right? Then why should males be treated anydifferently? The circumcised p e n i s is an abnormal s exorgan, and it is s e xually damaging to boththe man and the woman on the receiving end ofthe p e n i s. For one thing, lack of thesensitive f o r e s k i n causes the male tothrust with an abnormal rhythm, and thismakes it much harder for the woman to achieveo r g a s m No wonder so many women fake itin this country.Just because a circumcised man can stillachieve o r g a s m doesn't mean that heisn't harmed in many ways.Online, Research S e x As Nature Intended Itd o t c o m and you'll get educated on themany s e x u a l functions of the f o r e s ki n.It is a fact that 80% of the WORLD'S men areNOT circumcised. It is time for America towake up and join them.

This once again proves that Antisemitism is still alive and well in America.  If I understand the reason behind it is there is no benefit than there is not issue. Which again proves it is NOT about benefits it is about Jewish Law.  If they say it is about protecting children, then why not pass a law that children must be immunizations. Again proves the point that is not the issue, it comes down to Anti-Semitic people, trying to kill off the Law that G-d has asked us to do.  This is NOT the 1940's and anyone who votes yes is wrong.  Make your own choice, but do not impose your choice on me and my faith and family alone.

Are you  circumcised?  How's  your sex life?  Bet your wife loves the way you have to pound the crap out of her because you have no feeling down there.  circumcision is tribal not religious.  A way to keep the young studs, from quickly impregnating one of the elders wives while he wasn't looking.  I was born and raised Roman Catholic.  Yet I did not put my kids through any of my rligions traditional rituals.  Because I want them to believe what they want.  Follow who they want.  Is that not why we live in this supposidly free country?

What is so outlandish about it? In my lifetime (47 years) equal rights for women and African-Americans was considered outrageous or something that was too politically risky to dare fix.  Genital cutting/mutilation on girls is outlawed even though it is a cultural/religious/superstitious practice of certain ethnic groups in this country. It is high time that boys enjoyed the same EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW.

Who the hell are these 7,743 San Franciscans that signed the petition?

Circumcision definitely damages adult s e x u a l i t y. Medical research shows that the foreskin represents 1/2 of the p e n i s skin system in adulthood.

The circumcised p e n i s is an abnormal sex organ. And this causes the intercourseexperience to be abnormalized for both the man and the woman on the receiving end of the penis. So that's why it has to be made illegal.

It is not the parents' right to make the child--the child who will soon grow to be a man--live out his life with a partial p e n is.

Research S e x As Nature Intended It online. You'll be surprised how much damage infant male circumcision does to adult s e x u a l i t y. For one thing, it abnormalizes the male's thrusting rhythm and this makes it hard for a woman to achieve o r g a s m No wonder so many American women fake it.

80% of the world's men are not circumcised. It is time for America to join them.

I'm surprised it is not every grown circumcised man in  the city.
