So good on and off the field
While you were out cooking hot dogs and pounding cheap beers to celebrate the three-day weekend, Brian Wilson, the Giants relief pitcher, observed Memorial Day by establishing the largest Air Force scholarship in history.

Wilson set up The Michael Wilson Scholarship in honor of his late father who was a member of the Air Force. Although the amount isn't being released, the scholarship is the largest ever given by one individual, according to news outlets. It will be awarded to two air force members annually for the next five years.

Wilson, who grew up on the Air Force base, says the scholarships should be given to the men and women in the Air Force who demonstrate leadership qualities and have overcome obstacles.
"It doesn't have to be the smartest students, it doesn't have to be the hardest working," Wilson told MLB.com.

He says the scholarship is a way for him to reward hard work -- the same kind of hard work that made him a star in major league baseball today. "That's exactly how I got where I am, so I wanted there to be some sort of link," Wilson says.

He hopes others will step up and help him continue the scholarship beyond the next five years.

"I want it to be something that continues forever," Wilson says.
