​The question of whether mayoral candidates can technically be bought has been answered.

Yes, they can.

Some of San Francisco's mayoral candidates will be auctioning themselves off at a fundraiser for the New Leaders Council on Wednesday, April 27 -- and the highest bidders will get a "date" with their respective pols.

David Chiu, Bevan Dufty, Phil Ting, and Leland Yee will be selling themselves at the Smokin' Hot Progressives Second Annual Auction at Public Works. If you'd like to review a guide on who's hot and who's not, the Snitch is happy to provide you with that.

Despite what some might say about her politics, it seems no progressive auction would be complete without Supervisor Jane Kim, who has already proved she's a highly valued politician.

What about them?

Kim, who will be a part of the auction, surprised even herself when she raked in $1,300 from someone who bought a night out with her at a recent fundraiser for Japan. All proceeds will go to Japan. In comparison, a bike ride with David Chiu went for $250 at the same auction.

So who'd be the best for a date? We'd say Dufty -- that is, if you are counting on a date with good dance moves. If you are more into leisurely bike rides and alpha males, Chiu is your best bet. Or maybe Ting is more your style, if you like to crunch numbers while sipping on Long Island Iced teas.  But definitely bid on Yee if you have made a hobby out of despising Rush Limbaugh.
