Making a comeback?
Certainly, SF Weekly readers have not forgotten the bizarre string of outhouse arson fires that made international news back in 2009.

Now police are reporting a possible comeback of the hot vandalism with a suspicious porta-potti fire on Tuesday in the Marina District.

At about 3:15 p.m., firefighters were called to the 2900 block of South Van Ness where the burning outhouse was located. The fire also damaged the tailgate of a nearby Nissan Frontier.

And while cops are worried about these fires spreading to nearby property, companies renting out these mobile toilets have different concerns. They've told SF Weekly in the past that each blaze costs them roughly $750.

So we asked police whether this a copy cat of the notorious 2008-09 serial toilet burner who torched dozens of porta-johns, mostly in the Russian Hill neighborhood.

"We will always investigate the possibility, and if there are any similarities," Officer Albie Esparza told SF Weekly this morning.

Only time -- and burning potties -- will tell.

When their porta-potties go up in flames, do Marina residents concede their poop stinks?
