Oakland Mayor Jean Quan Crosses Bay Bridge to Poach from San Francisco

Says the weather in Oakland is ... magical
Last week, we gave you a rundown of San Jose's inferiority complex -- how badly does it want to be San Francisco? While lawmakers in the South Bay stoop to low levels as they try to poach Twitter from us, Oakland Mayor Jean Quan is doing a little preying of her own.

Quan is reportedly crossing over the Bay Bridge to talk to a few San Francisco gems -- Open Table, Yelp, and Zynga.
When San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee caught wind of this trip to San Francisco, he could only laugh.

But maybe Lee shouldn't underestimate Quan: Last week, the newly elected mayor put together a secret sales pitch to try and lure big-name companies across the Bay Bridge. And her selling points were nothing to laugh at --  warmer weather and cheaper rent.

Much, much cheaper rent.

Quan candidly admits she is trying to steal business from the City by the Bay. She told reporters that gaming companies like Zynga could save $35 million in a five-year span if they relocated to Oakland.

"We have better weather, we're closer to downtown San Francisco than even most of San Francisco," Quan says.

Oh, and Oakland has no payroll tax.

So, Lee says, poach away -- he's confident that Twitter and the likes will continue making San Francisco their home.

And if not?

"It goes both ways," Lee told reporters. "If there's something that interests us in Oakland, we might do the same."
