Google Pulls Dog Wars App
| Google: a fight not worth having |
Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback who has already had his fun with dogfighting, joined the Humane Society yesterday saying the virtual dogfighting game glorified animal abuse, and they called on Google to dump the app.
The game allows users to feed, water, and train pit bulls for dogfights. And while Kage Games, which created the app, insists it's not promoting the murderous sport, the logo itself has people questioning its intention. The Web sites features an illustration of a pit bull with a bloody muzzle next to the Dog Wars logo.
The game's developers claim it was supposed to benefit dogs -- a portion of the proceeds from the game would go to animal rescue groups, according to Kage.
"This is a satire about the ridiculousness of dogfighting and we believe in the power of a modern media tool to educate and raise awareness of the real horrors," the developers told reporters yesterday.
It's not the first controversy over an app in the last month. Recently, Apple dumped the "gay-cure" app, which was created by the religious organization Exodus International to help people overcome their unwanted homosexual desires. In that case, the company responded to the more than 146,000 people who signed a petition asking Apple to strip the offensive app.
Now, if only these companies had an app to help them decide which apps are too offensive to promote.
